Kei hopu tōu ringa ki te aka tāepa, engari kia mau ki te aka matua
This year AMA will be sponsoring up to three Provisionally Registered Teachers (PRT’s) who wish to attend and up to seven teachers who wish to present a workshop at this year’s NZAMT conference in Wellington. These scholarships are for current mathematics and statistics teachers who would be unable to attend the conference without support from the Auckland Mathematical Association.

The organisers of the New Zealand Association of Mathematics Teachers 13th Biennial conference warmly invite all teachers of mathematics and statistics, and all workers in mathematics and statistics, to join us for four days of being absolutely positive about our learning area.
Absolutely Positively Mathematics & Statistics
Wellington Girls’ College, October 1-4, 2013
NZ’s future citizens have plenty of challenging issues to tackle, in society, economy, and environment. These all require strong mathematical and statistical thinking. We’ll exchange experiences on these, hear from specialists, and focus on four strands:
- Transitions – enabling students to build their skills at primary, middle school, and senior levels; and to make the transitions between levels
- Curriculum – celebrating its sixth birthday (slightly early), and sharing our creativity about all that is new in its learning area of mathematics and statistics, in its values and key competencies, and in 21st Century methods of learning
- Assessment – sharing experiences and building our collective capability in assessing at all levels of school
- Technology - reassessing the growing mathematics-based technology around us, and how we can best use it to promote learning in mathematics and statistics.
We’ll assess how we work with students in ways that are consistent with the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi and strongly illustrate the cultural competencies, Tātaiako. We’ll share experiences about how we give bicultural strength to the learning of mathematics and statistics.
