NCEA preparation for stage 1 Mathematics


Carried out by The University of Auckland, Planning and Quality Office in 2016, to determine the correlation between Level 3 NCEA Achievement Standards and success in University courses.

  • The key to success in University Mathematics, at the level required for the majors listed above, is the Differentiation Standard 91578.
  • Students without the Differentiation Standard 91578 generally struggle to meet the required level, they have a pass rate of 46%.
  • Students with the Differentiation Standard 91578 have much more success in the required Maths course, with a pass rate of 85%.
  • Other NCEA Standards in Mathematics with Calculus and Mathematics with Statistics, show no significant correlation.
