NCTM have released a series of free Webinars presented by selected speakers who were due to present at their Centennial conference in Chicago this year. These webinars are a great opportunity for us to get a taste of NCTM from home.

Catalyzing Change recommends essential statistical concepts as part of the curriculum for every high school student, building on the foundation laid in the middle grades. The challenge: statistics is different from mathematics. What do we need to know to teach statistics well? What is important and how should we think about teaching it?

Math is a rich, exciting language! Many of the strategies we use in language arts are extremely effective for teaching math. During this engaging session, we will explore how to use think-alouds, talk motivators as well as effective strategies to help students to read and understand word problems. You will leave with practical ideas you can use to support and enhance student thinking.
